Postpartum Rules For the East Household 🏡

If you're a parent out there, you know how hard those first few weeks with a newborn can be. Andrew shared his top tips that have helped him support Shawn after giving birth to their third child. We hope these tips encourage you to take it slow and be intentional where you can!

1. Watch comedy movies: No sad or stressful shows, keep TV time light and fun to add some laughter to the day.

2. Get outside as much as possible: This doesn't have to be anything crazy, just get outside and feel the fresh air and sunshine for a few minutes a day.

3. Prepare yummy & healthy foods: Recovery can be tough on a woman's body so it's important to fuel properly and stay hydrated. Make or order healthy meals that will provide a nutritious boost.

4. Indulge in simple pleasures as much as possible - Shawn's favorites are a cup of coffee, a puzzle and a warm shower. It's important to take a few minutes to yourself doing something that brings you joy each day.

5. Ask for help as often as you can - Don't feel tied down and trapped in the house for weeks at a time, hand off the baby to someone you trust as much as you need to.

6. Dream about the future: Create something to look forward to, talk about new projects or goals you have to get the juices flowing for excitement.

Other ideas sent in by members of the FamilyMade Community: Restrict visitors, offer foot rubs, take vitamins, pray together, sleep whenever you can, start a new book, remind yourself this is only a season

"The important thing to remember is to be intentional with this time. This list isn't backed by scientists or psychologists but it's worked wonders for us so far and it's been a fun way for me to show Shawn I'm equally invested in this postpartum journey" - Andrew East
